The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Isra University, organized an online awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Intellectual Property Filing Procedures. The session commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Kamran Khowaja, Director ORIC, who highlighted the importance of intellectual property protection in promoting research, innovation, and commercialization within academia.
The session was conducted by Ms. Saima Kanwal from the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan, who provided valuable insights into patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, trade secrets, patent filing procedures, and commercialization opportunities for researchers, innovators, and startups.
The event received an overwhelming response with more than 150 registrations, attracting faculty members, researchers, and students from Isra University Hyderabad Campus, Al Tibri Medical College and Hospital Karachi Campus, and Al Nafees Medical College and Hospital Islamabad Campus. Participants actively engaged throughout the session, raising numerous questions and contributing to a productive discussion on intellectual property protection and innovation management.
During his remarks, Prof. Dr. Sohail Qazi, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of patent protection and shared his experience with patent filing in Malaysia. The session was moderated by Engr. Shayan Balouch, Deputy Manager ORIC.
In the closing remarks, Mr. Haseebullah Memon, Additional Director ORIC, thanked the speaker and participants and reaffirmed ORIC’s commitment to fostering innovation and research commercialization at Isra University.
